Description: A thorny shrub or small tree found on rocky or sandy sites in semi-arid areas. Branches and stems are thorn-tipped. Shrubby growth form provides good cover for quail and other wildlife. The mature black fruit is eaten by many species of birds and some mammals such as foxes, raccoons and coyotes. The leaves may be browsed by white-tailed deer and some livestock.
